“I grew up in this neighborhood, this show is great. I especially liked how everyone that I grew up with came out to your show, we don’t usually see that”
    – AGO Security Officer, 2003

“I think everyone was impressed with the high quality of the artwork exhibited at HYPE. congratulations to all the artists involved, and especially to you, devon, for managing such a large group exhibition!… i am so pleased with the way everything came together. I am still getting comments from ago staff about how much they liked the artwork and how much they miss it now that it’s gone.”
    – Barbara Gilbert, AGO Staff, 2003

H.Y.P.E. (Helping Young People Excel) was a massive event that ran for three years at the Art Gallery of Ontario. It was the combined project of them.ca, 4-Unity Youth Media Productions, The AGO Teen Council and Funkdamentals. Each organization focused on a specific art-form (visual, dance, music, etc) – with them.ca running the visual arts portion. At HYPE III, them.ca presented a collection from some of the top originators, innovators and emergent talent from the borderland between the graffiti and academic/fine arts world. Funded by the Ontario Arts Council and Triple Five Soul, there were over 30 participating organizations. The exhibits also included an auction for War Child Canada – produced in conjunction with M.D. Magazine that raised $2000. Over 1000 people attended the opening event.
